Les 3 Vallees
Les Trois Vallées, site of the 1992 Winter Olympics, bills itself as the largest skiable area in the world. It is a massive interconnected ski region, consisting of three main resorts and eight villages in three valleys:
Vallée de Courchevel (COURCHEVEL - LA TANIA)
Vallée de Méribel (MERIBEL - MOTTERET - BRIDES-LES-BAINS)
Vallée des Belleville (SAINT MARTIN - LES MENUIRES - VAL THORENS)
all of which originate from the Péclet Massif (3,560 metres).
Méribel and Mottaret are in the middle of Les Trois Vallées. While Méribel provides the most convenient access to the riches of the area, Courchevel often gets the votes as a place to stay, and the town actually consists of four villages at different elevations (1,300, 1,550, 1,650 and 1,850 meters).
On the other side of Méribel are the villages of Les Menuires and, higher up, Val Thorens. Val Thorens is the highest village in Les Trois Vallées (2,300m or 7,544 ft).
